Have to, should, must ~ V+아/어/여야 돼요

Creating a sentence about ‘having’ to do something all depends on the verb stem:

Verb stems ending in ‘ㅏ’ or ‘ㅓ’ —>Verb stem + 아야 해요

Verb stems ending in other vowels –> Verb stem + 어야 해요

Verb stems ending in ‘하’ –> Verb stem + 여야 해요

Note: Instead of using 해요 you can also substitute 돼요.

Examples

자다 –> 자야 해요
have to/should/must sleep

하다 –> 해야 해요
should do

지금 가야 돼요
I have to go now

숙제를 끝내어야 돼요
I should finish my homework

언제 도서관에 가야 돼요?
When should I go to the library?
